Position: Minister of Young Children and Families



The intent is that this position is filled by a lay person who brings the appropriate skills and training.



Purpose:


In keeping with the congregational mission statement to 'share God's Love and make Christ known', this position seeks to assist the congregation in drawing young families and children to full participation in the church community of First Lutheran. This position works in a team spirit with other staff and members of First Lutheran to ensure the support ministries of young families are in place.



Desired Outcomes:


As the result of this ministry, young families will know God's grace and love; have faith which guides them in decisions; are supported along the various milestones of their faith journey; discover their God given gifts; value and participate in the worshiping and serving church community grow in spiritual disciplines.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

Leads effort to partner church with young families to foster spiritual growth (accenting early-age family Milestones, Four Keys, Faith Talk, Gifts discernment, family or parents Bible Studies, etc., i.e. Hand in Hand emphasis)...use of email, phone, in-person visits
Coordinates Sunday School ages 3-7th grade
Leads effort to continue and expand existing programs, such as Vacation Bible Schools, CMT.
Facilitates and encourages young adult family programs and activities that build a network of relationships and helps each person identify with the life and mission of the church e.g. athletic teams, family nights, 0-3 age family activities, parents night out, casual fellowship events, service projects, etc. Nurtures lay leaders
Identifies and facilitates appropriate child and infant care for church activities.
Helps bring about marriage and family retreats designed to strengthen marriages and the family
Invites and welcomes newcomers into the life of the church. Helps young adults to invite their friends. Welcomes potential persons in this age group (eg Immanuel Outreach Center, CMT)
Works with worship leadership to grow worship 'friendliness' for children and young adults and helps establish alternative worship experience designed for, though not limited to, young families and adults.

Collaborates with staff members, ministry teams and program leaders for coordination of efforts and communication
Continues personal development through study and training
Participates in the overall life of the congregation



Time Commitment:


Full time. Compensation range depending on experience.



Qualities and requirements:


Spiritual maturity and deep commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Personable with a combination of tact and character that persuades and inspires
Ability to equip leaders and volunteers; know how to delegate responsibilities
Imagination and enthusiasm
Education related to youth and family ministry;degree preferred
Strong leadership and organization skills respecting traditions yet with vision for the new
Understanding of or willingness to learn the basics of Lutheran theology; solid Biblical background; will teach and serve in ways consistent with the faith and practices of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Musical ability preferred
Willingness to be flexible and pursue additional training



Salary and Benefits:

Annual base salary
Health insurance offset (negotiable)
Paid time for vacation, sick leave. Paid time off shall accrue monthly and be scheduled with supervisor and personnel committee
Car mileage reimbursement
Continuing education expense and time
Quarterly review the first year; annual review thereafter
