Who
we especially thank today:
· Dennis Vinson of Vinson
Brothers
Construction, Knappa, whose boom truck hauled the approximately
600 pound bell from Jim
Allen’s field in Knappa to Brownsmead for cleaning, and then hauled it
to
FIRST, Astoria.
· Joyce (Vinson) Smith –
Dennis’ mom,
who provided old photos of the parishes and knowledge about the bell.
· Mike Autio whose Brownsmead
business
sandblasted and primed the bell.
· Jim and Mary Allen, who
stored the
bell for several years, and let us know about the availability of the
bell.
· The crew who helped unload
and move
the bell into the church and are preparing it for use.
What we still want to do
with the
bell:
1. Finish cleaning and sanding
the bell.
2. Straighten the bent
clapper, weld the
broken hinge, and install new bolts.
3. Replace the skid beams
under the bell,
possibly with 6x6 pressure-treated beams
4. Cover the bell with a
durable silver
paint and paint the braces and beams a different color, possibly
black.
5. Find a suitable place,
perhaps by the
double doors, so it can be enjoyed, and enlist some helpers and tools
to move
it.
6. Mount a weather protected
photo and
history on the wall near the bell.
